Service and Safety
As an HVAC and controls service contractor safety is always your first call in everything, you do. Servicing equipment requires you to assess the situation and your surroundings thoroughly.
First, there is training which we do each month as part of our shop meetings. Next, there is Protection Protocol; wear safety glasses steel-toed boots and hand protection are required.
Getting to and from equipment may take ladders and may even require fall protection. Lockout/Tagout will be required on all equipment. Ear protection will be required as HVAC mechanical rooms and equipment can be very noisy. Cutting and or grinding will require a face shield and proper clothing. In some instances, confined space may be required. You must be careful working on roofs and follow OSHA guidelines being aware of roof edges and trip hazards.
Service work usually requires carrying tools, test equipment and other loads where you need to use your legs and not your back. Always communicate with a coworker or the customer where you will be working, and when you are finished. Stay hydrated and have a safety kit available. Safety should be everyone’s priority.
